Community Tour Guides
The Community Tour Guides program matches volunteers from the community with 'just arrived' immigrant families who need to be familiarized with their new community and surroundings.
Primary Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
- Be a warm and friendly representative of your community.
- Greet and welcome the new family as soon as possible.
- Provide community information on shopping, schools, recreation, and other resources.
- Answer questions about their new community, local culture, etc.
Orientation, Training, and Support
- Volunteer orientation sessions will include basic program information and an outline of newcomer settlement needs.
- Suggested guidelines for community orientation will be provided.
Requirements
- A valid and current criminal record check must be submitted prior to engaging with newcomers.
- A valid and current driver's license.
- If English is not your first language, CLB 5+ is required.
- Ability to keep client information private and confidential.
How do I get started?
1. Submit an application form and current resume, if available2. Meet with the Volunteer Program Coordinator
3. Attend an initial orientation and training session
4. Meet and greet your newcomer
5. Have fun!
