 English at Work delivers on-site (at the workplace)
language training for immigrant employees that is
fully customized for each workplace.

 Program Details

The English at Work program, established in 1983 by the Province of Manitoba, is designed to assist businesses and organizations with the English language training supports they need with immigrant employees.  Classes are typically 1-2 hours in length, held two times a week. They can be scheduled at any time of the day, for an agreed upon number of weeks, months, or even year-round.  In addition to class time, the program can include 1-on-1 shop floor tutorials, workplace-specific Picture Dictionary development, and outside-of-the classroom activities and assignments.

Employers participating in this program generally contribute 50% of the instructor's wages.  New employers involved in this program are eligible to receive 100% instructor funding for the first year.  A partnership between the employer and employee recognizes the time the employee is in class.  Employers compensate employees for half of their time in class, and employees are expected to contribute the other half on their own time.  This forms a three-way partnership between the Province, the employer and the employee.
